Krogevann bridge to be demolished and replaced with a culvert

The Krogevann bridge in Lillesand municipality is to be removed due to settlement damage in the structure. The damage to the bridge means that it is unlikely to meet the 100-year service life requirement.

In general, E18 traffic will remain on the main road during the construction period, which will run from mid-March to the end of May 2024. For a period of 4-5 weeks, the four-lane road will be converted to a two-lane road past the work site with reduced speed levels and safety measures to ensure the safety of workers and road users.

Settlement has occurred in the rock fill in Krogevann and caused damage to the Krogevann bridge. The bridge is founded on rock in the east and rock fill in the west. The settlements in the rock fill have culminated significantly over the past few years, but still have an active settlement course (1-2 mm per year).

The bridge will be replaced by a flexible culvert with a diameter of 3 meters, which ensures, among other things, free movement through the culvert with rowboats/kayaks/canoes even at the lowest water level. The culvert is dimensioned to handle a 200-year flood. In addition, a culvert with a diameter of 2 meters will be established for small game passage. Establishing a culvert solution also minimizes the inconvenience for road users and any future settlements can be easily and quickly maintained.
