Environment

E 18 Kristiansand-Grimstad is subject to strict regulation and environmental legislation, and meets all emission requirements.

CURRENT LAWS

The most important laws that regulate the relationship with the external environment are the Pollution Control Act, the Municipal Health Services Act, the Environmental Information Act and the Cultural Heritage Act.

EMISSION PERMITS

Discharge permits for the construction and operational phases are issued by the County Governor in accordance with the Pollution Control Act, with requirements for comprehensive environmental monitoring and reporting. During the construction and operational phases, regulations and emission requirements have been tightened as a result of new knowledge. Agder OPS has taken this very seriously and meets all emission requirements.

A SPECIAL CHALLENGE

The E18 Kristiansand-Grimstad has been particularly challenged by the presence of jarosite, a highly sulphide-bearing rock, at Tingsaker in Lillesand. Blasting work opened up rock formations and thus increased the exposure of jarosite. Water that comes into contact with jarosite has a reduced pH and an increased content of aluminum and heavy metals.

To counteract this, Agder OPS has established three sulphide deposits, where we collect runoff from the jarosite deposits. A layer of clay has also been applied and lime added in areas with jarosite. The measures have had a good effect.

KALDVELLFJORDEN

Two major surveys and a research project have been carried out in Kaldvellfjorden. All conclude that the E 18 Kristiansand-Grimstad has no impact on the Kaldvellfjord.
